Main Components of the Fan and Pad System:
1. Evaporative Cooling Pads (Cellulose Pads)
- Corrugated cellulose sheets impregnated with moisture-resistant resin
- High water absorption and rapid evaporation capability
- Typically installed on the north-facing wall of the greenhouse
2. Exhaust Fans
- Large axial or centrifugal fans, commonly sized 140×140 cm
- Mounted on the opposite wall of the pads (usually the south-facing wall)
- Responsible for pulling hot air out of the greenhouse
3. Water Pump and Reservoir
- Supply water to keep the pads consistently moist
- Water flows from the top of the pads and returns to the reservoir at the bottom in a recirculating loop
System Operation:
The exhaust fans draw the hot air out of the greenhouse, creating a vacuum effect that pulls in outside air through the cooling pads.
As the air passes through the moist cellulose pads, a portion of its heat is lost due to water evaporation, which leads to a drop in temperature and an increase in humidity.
The result is a flow of cool, humid air entering the greenhouse, creating an optimal microclimate for plant growth.
Advantages of the Fan and Pad System:
- Effectively reduces greenhouse temperature by 10–15°C
- Low energy consumption compared to traditional air conditioners
- Increases relative humidity, beneficial for sensitive crops
- Simple operation, high durability, and easy maintenance
- Can be integrated with automated climate control systems
Applications:
Ideal for industrial greenhouses in hot regions, and for cultivating heat-sensitive crops such as:
peppers, strawberries, cucumbers, and ornamental flowers
