Misting System

The misting system, also known as a fogger, is a key greenhouse component used for increasing humidity, cooling the air, and improving overall climate conditions. This system disperses ultra-fine water droplets into the air, creating a cool, humid mist that is highly effective in controlling temperature and relative humidity inside the greenhouse.

Operation Principle of the Misting System:

Water is delivered through high-pressure pumps (typically between 40 to 70 bar) and sprayed as a fine mist through specially designed micro-nozzles.

When the mist comes into contact with the warm greenhouse air, it quickly evaporates, resulting in a temperature drop and a rise in relative humidity.

The system is typically installed on the greenhouse ceiling to ensure even mist distribution throughout the growing area.

Components of the Misting System

  • High-pressure anti-corrosion pump
  • Water filtration unit (prevents nozzle clogging)
  • Fine-orifice brass or stainless-steel nozzles
  • High-pressure piping (made of polyamide or stainless steel)
  • Automatic controller (for timing and humidity level adjustment)

Advantages of the Misting System

  • Increases relative humidity to optimal levels for plant growth
  • Reduces ambient temperature (by up to 5°C or more)
  • Prevents heat stress in plants
  • Enhances germination, plant growth, and final crop quality
  • Can be integrated with greenhouse automation systems
  • Consumes less water compared to fan and pad systems

Applications of the Misting System

  • Greenhouses cultivating ornamental plants, vegetables, herbs, and seedlings
  • Hot and arid climates
  • Increasing humidity for moisture-loving plants such as orchids, anthuriums, and bell peppers

Key Considerations for Selection and Installation:

  • Water quality (preferably filtered or low in hardness)
  • Pump capacity must match the size of the greenhouse
  • Proper spacing of nozzles to ensure even mist coverage
  • Adequate ventilation to manage excess humidity and prevent fungal growth
